This study discusses the communication strategy of the Kalijawi community organization in encouraging community participation in the environmental management of riverbank areas. Community participation plays an important role in environmental management, particularly in riverbank settlements that often face complex social and environmental issues. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, observations, and documentation techniques. The informants consisted of community leaders, active members of the organization, local public figures, and residents involved in community activities. The findings reveal that the communication strategy implemented by the Kalijawi community organization was developed through collective message planning, interpersonal interaction, and the use of community-based communication media such as group meetings and digital platforms, particularly WhatsApp Groups. In practice, persuasive and dialogical approaches not only positioned residents as recipients of information but also encouraged them to become active agents in environmental activities. The study also found that the involvement of social actors and local social networks, including community group members and neighborhood leaders (RT/RW), strengthened residents’ trust in community programs. These findings indicate that participatory communication based on social closeness and collective interaction plays a significant role in building public awareness and participation in environmental management.
